| Nearly 20 million Americans are estimated to have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) while 80-90% of those 20 million remain undiagnosed. OSA can result in heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, and increased risk of motor vehicle accidents. Ask yourself the following questions: |
- Do you snore?
- Do you experience a choking or gasping sensation at night?
- Has anyone witnessed pauses in your breathing?
- Do you wake feeling unrefreshed?
- Do you suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness?
- Do you have morning headaches?
- Do you have poor memory or difficulty concentrating?
- Do you fall asleep at inappropriate times (driving or at work)?
- Do you have a large neck, >17" for men or >16" for women?
- Do you experience sexual dysfunction?
- Do you experience frequent nighttime urination?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Do you have a BMI >=25 or are you obese?
- Do you experience depression?
- Do you have diabetes?
- Do you have CHF?

| The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) |
| The Epworth sleepiness scale or ESS is a questionnaire intended to measure daytime sleepiness. This can be helpful in diagnosing sleep disorders. It was introduced in 1991 by Dr Murray Johns of Epworth Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. |
